Named after the Emerald Isle's most famous writers, Oscar Wilde's Irish Pub is gearing up to open later this month in the former Gossip Grill spot at 1440 University Avenue.
The new proprietors have completely refreshed the interior of the space and have more than 30 years experience in the bar business; one of the partners also owns The Harp, another Irish bar in Ocean Beach.
There's 24 taps, pouring Irish beers and at least 16 local craft brews, plus a full bar; Oscar Wilde's intends to make Irish coffee their signature drink.
Chef Pete Harbison, who hails from Hooley's Irish Pub in La Mesa, has put together a menu that ranges from a classic Irish breakfast (with an optional shot of Jameson) to Scotch duck eggs, Strongbow-glazed pork belly and poutine topped with Irish cheddar. There's also traditional pub grub, from burgers and fish and chips to shepherd's pie with lamb or veggies.
