Since it opened in South Park in early 2013, Buona Forchetta has become a beloved neighborhood favorite, amassing fans from all over San Diego for its pizza (which won Eater's poll for the best in town) cooked in a gold-tiled wood oven dubbed Sofia.
For the past month, the restaurant has been rolling around town with its new mobile pizza oven, called Dante, which has been rigged up on the back of a vintage flatbed truck to fuel catering events.
And now, the restaurant is gearing up for even more movement. As he hinted in his Eater Interview, owner Matteo Cattaneo is planning a new restaurant in North County.
Cattaneo says that the restaurant should be open by the end of this summer and tells Eater that he's talking with pizza oven maestro Stefano Ferrara about putting in two of Ferrara's hand-built ovens in the new kitchen, with one dedicated to gluten-free pies.
