The coffee situation in Mission Hills has improved exponentially now that Heartwork Coffee Bar, which soft opened last week, has revved up its custom-painted Synesso espresso machine.
Co-owner Rob Moran, a native San Diegan who also tours as a musician, founded the bite-sized shop on Goldfinch with fellow coffee devotees who saw the opportunity to add a craft coffee component to the neighborhood.
Open at 6:30 a.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. on weekends, Heartwork is currently sourcing the beans for its espresso drinks from Little Italy's James Coffee Co. and brewing pour overs and standard drip coffee with Dark Horse Coffee Roasters' product. Moran says he may occasionally feature out of town roasters too.
They're making homemade vanilla syrup in-house to add to speciality drinks and serving tea from Tea Gallerie; pastries, both vegan and traditional, are available from different local bakeries, and they will eventually offer other light breakfast options. The shop, which has indoor and outdoor seating, also plans to host local art shows every few months.
