Bottega Bartender Battle; Sushi Ota Wins; Classes at Bake Sale Bakery

Bottega Americano hosts a bartender competition, Sushi Ora makes a national Thrillist list and baking classes at Bake Sale Bakery.

GASLAMP— Watch top San Diego bartenders put their skills to the test at Bottega Americano's Campari Cocktail Classic on January 20. Contenders hail from Kettner Exchange, Lion's Share, Seven Grand and other watering holes. Root for your favorite and sip on $4 Cynar shots, $6 Aperol sprtiz and nosh on $10 select pizzas. On January 26 the scene will be a little less rowdy, when Bottega hosts a Venissimo cheese tasting adventure paired with wine for $60 per person. [EaterWire]

PACIFIC BEACH— The unassuming sushi spot Sushi Ota just reeled in some serious bragging rights, having been named one of the top 21 sushi spots in America by Thrillist. Despite its strip mall locale, it's a "constantly packed oasis popping out incredible sashimi and some of the most reliably delicious uni in town." [Thrillist]

EAST VILLAGE— Terryl Gavre's Bake Sale Bakery will host six baking lessons from January through March. The 6 to 8:30 p.m. classes cost $75 per person and the ingredients and take-away goodies are baked into the price. The first is January 13 and entitled Easy as Pie? Learn the basics of preparing and rolling out dough, baking single-and double-crusted pies, mastering fruit pies, cookie-crusted pies and cream pies. [EaterWire]
