It's been reported that Stingaree has issued a notice to current employees informing them that the space will shutter in November in order to transition it into an still-unknown new concept.
The downtown nightclub, which first opened in 2005, was part of the package deal when Hakkasan Ltd.'s acquired a majority stake in the locally-based Enlightened Hospitality Group earlier this year; the global hospitality group's other big San Diego project is a new Little Italy restaurant currently in development with Brian Malarkey.
Hakkasan reps are staying tight-lipped about their plans for the new entity at Stingaree but Eater insiders speculate that it may resemble the multi-million dollar renovation of the group's former Pure Nightclub in Las Vegas. We're hearing that the tri-level venue will include a food component. Have more intel? Send it to sandiego@eater.com.
