Ballast Point Expanding Home Brew Mart With 40 Taps

The brewery's original location is getting an all-new tasting room.

With a Little Italy location that's about to ring in its first year as a solid winner and a new production facility and restaurant underway in the Miramar area, Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits will next give some love to its original outpost, Home Brew Mart, which opened 22 years ago in Linda Vista.

In an expansion due to be completed by late October, Home Brew Mart will add another 2,200-square-feet of space, bringing its footprint to 8,800-square-feet in total; the brewery is taking over two adjacent suites that'll be combined into a new tasting room with a stainless steel 40-tap system similar to their setup in Little Italy.

Home Brew Mart, which recently extended their hours to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 p.m. on weekends, will be adding bar and table seating; there are no current plans for additional food options, but they will continue to offer food from a nearby eatery.

Colby Chandler, Ballast Point's executive director and specialty brewer, told Eater that the grain bar will shift to make room for a merchandising area. Home Brew Mart's brewing space will remain the same, but the existing tasting bar will now be used for home brew demos and education. Chandler says he expects the change to be seamless, so Home Brew Mart has no plans to shutter during the expansion.
