Spanish Tapas Swapped for Mexican Molcajetes in La Jolla

Iberico Spanish Bistro is now sharing its space with a traditional Mexican restaurant.

After opening Iberico Spanish Bistro on Prospect Street last summer, its owners, who also run El Agave Restaurant and Tequileria, are slotting a new concept into the 4,000-square-foot space.

Launching today and open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. is Josefas Mexican Kitchen, which will service an expansive menu of traditional dishes ranging from tacos and tortas to molcajetes (stone mortars filled with a mix of grilled proteins), plus all variety of margarita.

But the owners haven't tapped out of tapas yet; Iberico will now occupy a smaller back area of the restaurant space, where it can be accessed by a separate entrance. They'll still serve tapas there, and continue to run a speciality gin bar.
