Serve-Yourself Craft Beer Bar Expands Into North County

Barrel Republic, which opened last fall in Pacific Beach, is taking its serve-yourself beer concept to North County.

Owner David Pike has taken over The Australian Grill's space in Carlsbad and is planning to reopen as Barrel Republic by November. Location Matters helped secure the space, which has a smaller interior than PB, but comes with a good-sized outdoor patio.

There will be more taps here, around 50, and a full food menu with chef A.G. Warfield, formerly the executive chef of Churchill's Pub & Grille in San Marcos, heading the kitchen.

Once Carlsbad's up and running, Pike says he plans on buying a food truck that'll service his Garnet Avenue bar with the same food offerings; this week, PB will also be getting eight taps of wine.

And there's more in store for North County; Barrel Republic is reportedly about to secure another spot in downtown Oceanside.
