SAN MARCOS— The owner of the two-decades-old Penny Lane Pub and Grill (1001 W San Marcos Blvd.) will shutter the eatery this month and reopen as a new concept called Inland Tavern Bar & Grill. The one-time pub will reportedly debut on October 16 as a new restaurant serving "modern, California coastal cuisine" with lots of beer on tap, a craft cocktail menu and plates that include a truffled egg salad sandwich, Vietnamese meatballs and tempura fish tacos with chili jam and asian slaw. NORTH PARK— Start next week off right with several cocktails from Polite Provisions' Spirit Society. The latest in their series of interactive classes, scheduled for Monday, September 15 from 6 to 8 p.m., will be hosted by Ryan Fitzgerald, an agave-based spirits expert and one of the pro bartenders behind San Francisco's new, hot ABV. Fitzgerald will talk about the history of tequila and mezcal and lead you through a hands on demo of three cocktails using the spirits; then, you get to sip your handiwork. Sound delicious? Limited tickets are still available here but Eater has a pair of tickets to give away to the first reader to email us and ask for them. [EaterWire]

AROUND TOWN— Through September 18, San Diego CityBeat's Taco Mania features $2 tacos and $6 combos (with beer) at taco-centric eateries all over town, including The Blind Burro, City Tacos, La Puerta, Oscar's Mexican Seafood and many more. [SDCityBeat]
