Longtime La Jolla Fish Market Expands With New Eatery

Our amazing Eater street team has been sending in photos of the new El Pescador Fish Market & Restaurant, which just opened across the street from its original location in La Jolla.

The market and eatery was first founded in Del Mar in the mid 70's. By the mid 80s, it was taken over by an employee, Sean Shannon, and moved to a 1,150-square-foot space on Pearl Street. Last year, Shannon started a major buildout on an 3,000-square-foot expansion that includes lots more seating, a dedicated parking lot, a larger seafood counter and craft beer taps; a patio is also in the works.

Seafood salads, soups and sandwiches, grilled fish and sautéed shellfish are still the focus of the menu; new are burrito specials filled with shrimp, salmon and more. El Pescador's retail component opens at 10 a.m. daily and the eatery will operate from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Now that the new restaurant is activated, El Pescador has closed its original shop; there's no word yet on what they plan to do with the space.
