NORMAL HEIGHTS— In honor of Tiki Oasis, the tiki extravaganza currently lubricating San Diego, two local bars will be serving up a tiki-inspired drink tomorrow for the inaugural Neighborhood Face Off. Normal Heights' Sycamore Den and North Park's Coin-Op will each offer a $5 tiki-inspired drink on Saturday from open until close. The winning bar who sells the most featured drinks get a trophy and bragging rights, with a portion of sales going to local charities. Sycamore Den's cocktail, called the Cookie Monster, is a frozen blend of rum, Galliano, fresh lime and orange juice, coconut syrup and cream while Coin-Op's drink, the Piña Bolslada, features fresh lime, pineapple, coconut cream, bols Genever, amaretto, and a float of Jägermeister spice. DOWNTOWN— The Karina's Group, who recently opened La Tequila in Chula Vista, have just announced plans to take over the former Chaplos space at 925 B Street for a new, grand version of their Karina's Mexican Seafood concept which has three other locations. The 5,000-square-foot "urban cantina" will also include a bar and lounge and private dining room. [EaterWire]
DOWNTOWN— Monday Madness starts on August 18 at Spike Africa's Fresh Fish Grill & Bar. Every week from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the bar, diners will be able to partake in free, chef-chosen bites that'll range from baked potato wedges topped with jalapeños and cheddar to mini brownies and rotating taco stand loaded with fresh tortillas and chips and salsa.
