South Park Wine Bar Adds Bottle Shop, Launches Brunch

The Rose Wine Pub, which opened in South Park in 2010, has a new name and new proprietors. Chefs Chelsea Coleman and Rocio Siso Gurriaran and home brewer Rae Gurne recently bought the 1,000-square-foot space from its previous owner and have re-dubbed it The Rose Wine Bar + Bottle Shop.

The trio, who love the South Park neighborhood, hope to enhance the sense of community and fun that's been established at the bar and make it an even better local hangout. There's fresh emphasis on their retail wine component, with a focus on good San Diego labels and bottles from small producers from around the globe that can be opened at the bar for an $8 corkage or purchased to take home. A wine club and events with winemakers are also in the works.

Coleman, who cooked at Whisknladle and The Linkery, has been The Rose's chef for the last three years. A leader in the Slow Food movement, she sources directly from San Diego farms and food artisans, including Stehly Farms, The Meat Men, P. Balistreri Salumi and Suzie's Farm, for a menu cheese and meat boards, salads, flatbreads, and homemade empanadas with seasonal fillings.

This weekend, The Rose debuts a Saturday and Sunday brunch, available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., that includes cinnamon-plum mimosas and plates that range from a pardon pepper and potato hash with chorizo hollandaise and a breakfast pizza topped with bacon, peaches and spicy caramelized onions.

Their next phase is to install a sidewalk patio on 30th Street, which will add 12 seats to the 30 indoors, and to build out the current kitchen, which will allow The Rose to expand their menu.
