It's waffle week on Eater! First Bruxie, and now we have the scoop on a waffle pop-up that's settling down into a permanent and unlikely new space in North Park.
WOW WOW Waffle, which has a booth at the La Jolla and Oceanside farmer's markets and delivers their waffles to local coffee shops, including Coffee & Tea Collective, Subterranean Coffee Boutique and Ocean Beach's Lazy Hummingbird, is setting up a shop and kitchen in the back of 30th Street's Coin Laundry.
It'll have a lounge, with seating, play areas for kids and dogs, and serve savory and sweet waffles with toppings that range from seasonal produce to cookie butter and candied bacon, plus their fresh pressed lemonade. WOW WOW Waffle's Joseph Kraft told Eater that they may expand the current menu a bit to include a fried chicken and waffle option.
Kraft says he's looking into a unique way to serve coffee, by creating a coffee geek's playground; he hopes to be able to stock a variety of beans and set up a collection of the latest and best coffee-making equipment to allow customers to grind and brew their own cup. The shop will also retail some of the ingredients used on their menu.
WOW WOW Waffle will continue to operate their market booths, but the new shop in the laundromat should be ready to go in a few weeks, and a grand opening is scheduled for July 4.
