Last December, Eater reported that Solunto's, a Little Italy fixture, was getting a reboot from owner Antonino Mastellone (Ristorante Arrivederci, Buon Appetito), who recently helped to open South Park's new Italian eatery, Piacere Mio.
The remodel of the space, which has been operational for over 40 years, will start in August; Mastellone tells the U-T that he plans to "raise the ceiling, add skylights and install tall glass doors that would open the restaurant to the street."
He will expand the in-house bakery section, offer gelato and prepared food to-go, add a wood-fired pizza oven and have a sit-down restaurant component with its own menu; Solunto's should reopen in December.
