Beer on Tap & Pressed Artisan Sandwiches for Hillcrest

New, 1 comment

A former wine bar in Hillcrest has gone craft beer; the owners of a Texas gastropub, called Block Table & Tap, who have vacationed in San Diego for years, are behind the new Tap & Press.

They've redesigned the space and added outdoor seating, a hand-drawn mural and 33 taps of beer that will be rotate frequently; there's also a 100-plus bottle list and wine from smaller producers.

The Tap & Press menu focuses on pressed hot sandwiches; their version of a Cuban sandwich includes mojo pork, ham, beer mustard, pickles and Swiss cheese while their take on grilled cheese melts cheddar, chevre and mozzarella on Bread & Cie's fig anise bread. There are also cold deli sandwiches, baguettes with ham and butter or burrata and pesto, plus cheese and meat boards with housemade pickles. Eventually, the menu will expand to include flatbreads and other small plates.

To start, the eatery will be open from 3 p.m. to midnight, with lunch to follow.
