A whopping 69 taps dominate Mission Beach's new beer mecca, Draft, which soft opened yesterday in Belmont Park.
Now that it's complete, Eat.Drink.Sleep. (Tower23) has nearly finished its grand reboot of the complex. Their rooftop lounge, Cannonball, which debuted last summer, is undergoing an expansion that'll double its footprint and add a glassed-in dining room (they're calling it a "sushi cube") with a new upscale menu; it's scheduled to relaunch in mid-July.
Draft's 4,800-square-foot space, designed by Mauricio Couturier (Bang Bang, El Camino) and Hollis Brand Culture, opens up to the Mission Beach boardwalk; inside, a huge, wall-length television screen will show live sports and project beer-related footage. Besides beer, there are also cocktails based around whiskey and bourbon.
The park's exec chef, Brad Wise, has assembled a beer-friendly menu that includes puffy pork tacos, a bison burger and pork belly, battered and fried up as a corn dog. Their 4 to 6 p.m. weekday happy hour includes $4 on select local beers; brunch will likely start next weekend.
