The Patio in Mission Hills Opens Friday With a Cheese Cave, Living Walls & More

The long-awaited second location for The Patio, on Goldfinch in Mission Hills, is gearing up for its debut this Friday, June 13.

Though there will be signature elements carried over from their original Pacific Beach location, from the open air front room with fireplace to living wall installations, there will be new features here, from a sidewalk seating area where they'll serve breakfast daily to a cheese cave smack dab in the middle of the restaurant. Venissimo Cheese is helping The Patio curate their cheese program and plans to hold monthly pairing events there, and the restaurant will also be aging their own cheese in-house.

The Patio on Goldfinch is aiming to score LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building council, which they should receive four to six weeks after opening.

The beer program here has expanded to 12 taps and a bigger bottle list, while the cocktails will focus on tequila and barrel-aged drinks. In front of the open kitchen, there's a chef's table for four, and exec chef John Medall's menu for this spot is 50% new, with an emphasis on seafood.

Eater's been hearing that there's a third location in the works, and The Patio Restaurant Group confirmed that they are looking to bring their "neighborhood-centric concept" to other local communities. A rep says they're exploring North County coast sites and are also interested in Liberty Station. The first outpost of The Patio's sister concept, called The Front Porch, is currently scheduled to open around the corner in July.
