After announcing their Italian concept last summer, COOKBOOK Tavola Calda has finally arrived in Little Italy and opens today on Kettner. The new eatery, run by Romans Gregorio Serafini Pozzi (the chef) and his business partner, Filippo Macchiarelli, is modeled after the traditional Italian tavola calda, small and casual shops where prepared food can be eaten-in or taken-out.
Serafini Pozzi is making everything on the menu from scratch, from pasta to the desserts. The food is divided into sections, from primi (hot pasta, cold pasta salads and risotto) to secondi (meatballs, fish of the day, roasted meats) and contorni (vegetable sides); for $16.95, you can choose a primi or secondi plus two sides or dessert.
There are six taps of beer and wine; during their two happy hours (daily from 2 to 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. to close), select bottles from their wine list will be 20% off and certain beers will be $3. The owners say that they'll eventually start delivery service in the area, about a month after opening.
