Brand New Donut Shop Goes Vegan

New, 1 comment

Mission Gorge's Sunshine Donuts has new ownership and fresh menu thanks to Linda Dami, who has worked as a chef at Influx and a baker at Sipz, Dami's had a passion for baking since she was 12, and initially hoped to open a sit-down cafe and bakery, but when and her father recently found themselves unemployed, they saw the donut shop for sale on Craigslist and decided to take the plunge.

Since then, they've immersed themselves in the craft of donut-making and rechristened the shop Donut Panic.

Though Dami is still selling Sunshine Donuts' traditional, run of the mill donut line-up, she's launched a new assortment of yeasted vegan donuts that are available on Saturday and Sunday mornings and every Wednesday night at 6 p.m., when Donut Panic hosts a game night. Among the vegan flavors are maple-coconut-bacon, rosewater-cardamom, lemon-lavendar and a chocolate-espresso Bavarian creme.

Donut Panic also plans to branch out into other baked goods; Dami is featuring vegan cupcakes every Friday and delving into savory pastries too. Her father is Iranian, and they hope to add some traditional Persian dishes and eventually expand into espresso bar service.
