We can almost taste the liquid goodness that will soon flow from the gleaming copper still that was just installed at Old Harbor Distilling Co.
Things are ramping up at the new East Village distillery. Founder Mike Skubic expects to get the new 1,000 liter still up and running early next month an nd should be ready to soft open the distillery later this spring, with a grand opening scheduled for late September.
A 650-square-foot corner of the 7,500sf warehouse is dedicated to a tasting room with an 18-foot bar and windows that look into the heart of the distillery, which will be stacked with over 1,000 barrels for aging goodness; Skubic says that he'll start by offering scheduled tours on Fridays and Saturdays that, thanks to the new California law, will allow sampling of his spirits.
Old Harbor Distilling Co.'s spirits line includes gin, rum, whiskey and a coffee liqueur made in collaboration with Coffee & Tea Collective. Skubic also plans on creating batches of hopped amaro using IPA's from different local breweries including Societe Brewing Co, Monkey Paw Pub and Brewery and Mike Hess Brewing.
