LA Nightlife Guru to Open Gaslamp Club & Restaurant

The 10,000-square-foot Gaslamp space vacated by Voyeur last November will soon be home to new venue touting a "Cirque du Soleil-meets-nightclub" experience complete with acrobats and dancers.

The former EDM club is being given a major makeover by Tosh Berman, who told Eater that he plans to bring his new concept, CAKE Nightclub, to San Diego later this summer. Berman, a nightlife vet who's also behind Hollywood's AV Nightclub, opened the first CAKE in Scottsdale earlier this year.

Berman, who intends to relocate to San Diego and move the operational hub of his EDL Management here, says that the 17th century boudoir-themed CAKE will be a Vegas-style venue that falls somewhere between a DJ-driven club and theatrical stage show that he hopes will appeal to a sophisticated audience.

In the 3,000-square-foot subterranean space beneath the club, Berman will launch a restaurant that will operate independently of the club called Toca Madera. The farm-to-table concept, which he's also bringing to Los Angeles, will serve traditional Mexican dishes using organic produce and grass fed beef, in a setting that mixes old world Latin design and modern touches. It's also scheduled for a late summer, early fall debut.
