Municipalities "East of the Mississippi" are clamoring for San Diego-style beer and hoping that Stone Brewing Co. will soon call their city home.
The tenth-largest craft brewery in the country is currently accepting proposals from cities across the Eastern U.S. that would like to house a new production facility and a Stone World Bistro & Gardens, a project similar in scope to their Escondido site; the deadline for applications is March 15.
In his recent Eater Interview, CEO and co-founder Greg Koch mentioned that the company was looking to open projects outside of the San Diego area; a request for proposal to Eastern cities includes site requirements for the new space, including the minimum square footage needed for the production brewery (130,000-square-feet) and adjacent brewery restaurant.
North Carolina in particular has been doing some serious courting; the cities of Charlotte and Greensboro have both set up Facebook pages to recruit the San Diego brewery.
In local Stone news, the brewery had been eyeing a spot on 30th Street next to Polite Provisions but a rep told Eater that they are no longer pursuing the space.
