Dirty Birds owner Leigh Gibson, one of the partners behind the new La Jolla Brewing Company, is teaming up with Mike Garcia, to open a new eatery next to Garcia's Saddle Bar in Solana Beach.
The duo, who once worked together at Sidebar, is taking over the Sushi Solana's 1500-square-foot space, giving it a modern beach bar makeover and renaming it Pillbox Tavern & Grill. Paul Ahern from Location Matters facilitated the lease, and Gibson told Eater that they plan to open by early summer.
We got a peek at the menu, which includes salad, sandwiches, burgers and fish tacos, plus a section dedicated to chicken wings, grilled or fried, with a dozen sauce choices, from garlic-parmesan and teriyaki to wicked hot, which spikes their hot sauce with extra habaneros; on Mondays, you can test your fortitude with an all-you-can-eat wings deal.
Thursdays from 8 p.m. to close, pitchers of beer from most of their ten taps will be $10, which you can enjoy on Pillbox's new patio.
