Eater readers, eager to check out what Richard Blais will offer San Diego with his new Little Italy restaurant project, asked us to confirm an opening date.
We can share that Juniper & Ivy has a media preview scheduled for later this month and plans to officially open its doors for dinner on Monday, March 3; their website should be taking reservations shortly.
Since Eater has been covering the heck out of the project since its inception, let's do a rewind, shall we? Last May, our friends at Eater Atlanta shared the breaking news that Blais was heading to San Diego and we sussed out the exact location on Kettner Boulevard.
We took you on a hard hat tour of the 90-year-old building, which includes a bar/lounge, private dining room and outdoor patio.
At a local cooking class, Blais gave Eater some early insight on the style of food he was going for, now branded as "left coast cookery", hinting that San Diego-foraged ingredients would be in the mix with his signature molecular techniques.
Last month, we introduced you to Jon Sloan, Juniper & Ivy's new chef de cuisine, who said that their food would be "whimsical" and "ingredient-driven" with the "kind of service and focus that you would find in New York City"; we also showed you their enviable open kitchen.
Since then, the restaurant's been assembling a roster of local talent for both sides of the house, from bar manager Jen Queen (Puesto) to sommelier Tami Wong (La Valencia) and general manager Dan Pena (Herringbone).
