Freshly-minted in North Park is the new outpost of Saiko Sushi, a popular Coronado eatery that signed a second lease on University Avenue earlier this year.
The 3,000-square-foot restaurant's menu is blend of traditional nigiri, sashimi and rolls and "new-style" rolls that range from the Renegade, a mix of albacore, crab and tempura shrimp topped with black garlic ponzu to the Kilroy, a combo of whitefish, avocado, lobster and asparagus painted with a Szechuan blueberry glaze. There's also a hot side of the menu, with dishes that include shishito peppers with yuzu salt, wild board tonkatsu with miso mustard and the currently-trending fried chicken skins, here served with house made sriracha.
Beyond the Japanese lagers, there are local craft beers and for North Park, added emphasis on premium sake, available by the glass or bottle.
