Following on the heels of the debut of their Little Italy location, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters is continuing its steady expansion with the official launch of a new roasting facility, housed in a 3,000-square-foot warehouse at 1270 Morena Boulevard.
Managed by head roaster Heather Brisson, Bird Rock's new energy-efficient roaster will enable the company to double their yearly roasting capacity, taking them from 100,000 pounds of green coffee to 200,000, though owner Chuck Patton assures that "Even with our business growing, we are still dedicated to operating as the neighborhood craft coffee roaster, focusing on roasting quality, small-batch coffees."
The new facility will serve as Bird Rock Coffee Roasters' wholesale distribution center and starting in early 2015, will be the site of weekly public cuppings, classes, and barista training; a retail coffee bar component is also in the works and should be open by January or February.
