It's baaack...November 7 to 16 marks the San Diego Brewers Guild's sixth annual San Diego Beer Week, ten beer-soaked days and nights of celebration at bars and restaurants over the county.
This year, the mobile-friendly SDBW website aims to help you navigate the gauntlet with updated calendar features that can be sorted by date, region, time and type of event. Still, it's a dizzying list, so here are our suggestions for where to drink every day of Beer Week if you choose to be so ambitious. Happy sipping.
November 7 @ 6 p.m., the VIP Brewer Takeover at the Port Pavilion.
Less hectic, with a more unique selection of beers than Saturday's general Guild Festival. Features local brewers pouring their rare and specialty beers, including some brewed just for the event. Tickets include unlimited beer and food samples.
November 8 @ noon, The Meat Men Charcuterie and Beer Tasting at Thorn Street
The neighborhood brewery is hosting local salumi company, The Meat Men, for a tasting of five cured meats paired with 5 ounce pours of specially-selected beers. Prager Brothers’ Artisan Breads will also be on hand with their gourmet bread and Bavarian pretzels. The ticket cost also includes a pint of your favorite Thorn Street Brewery beer from the tasting.
November 9 @ noon, The World's Biggest Bottle Share on 30th Street
Bring or buy a bottle and hop aboard a shuttle that'll ferry you to one of 8 participating locations (including Polite Provisions, Ritual Kitchen & Beer Garden, Waypoint Public, Brabant Bar & Cafe, Alchemy Restaurant & Hamilton's Tavern), where you can share your beer and taste new ones. The ticket includes shuttle access, a t-shirt, and a commemorative taster, plus 10% off at local bottleshops Bine & Vine, Bottlecraft North Park or Bottlecraft Little Italy.
November 10 @ 9 a.m. Fishing With the Brewers at Fathom Bistro Bait & Tackle
This special event at one of San Diego's most unique beer spots features a fishing competition between attendees and renowned brewers, including Chuck Silva of Green Flash, Bill Batten of AleSmith, Yuseff Cherney of Ballast Point and Travis Smith from Societe, plus beer from each of the participating breweries. Tickets include all the fishing equipment you need, a breakfast burrito bar, lunch, and a t-shirt.
November 11 @ 3 p.m., The Full Table at the Benchmark Tap Room
GABF-winning Benchmark Brewing Company will be presenting a Table Beer tap takeover with 12 versions of their Belgian-style Table Beer, including wood aged, brett, fruit aged and more. Meet master brewer Matt Akin and sample the beer in individual tastes, flights of six or full pours.
November 12 @ noon, 3-Day Speedway Grand Prix at AleSmith Brewing Company
The brewery's award-winning imperial stout will be celebrated over three days, kicking off on Wednesday with an appearance by Mastiff Sausage Company and flights of special one-off versions of the beer, including mint chocolate, peanut butter and coconut and vanilla, that need to be purchased in advance. .
November 13 @ 5 p.m., Cask Night at all Karl Strauss Brewing Company Locations
A special beer week edition of Karl Strauss' weekly cask night will debut a keg of their rare Queen of Tarts, a tart cherry sour, along with cask-conditioned Tower 10 IPA, at all of their brewery restaurant locations and their main tasting room. After you get a taste, head over to Tacos Perla in North Park for No Border, a Night of Craft Beer and Tacos, where you can meet the brewers from Tijuana's Cerveceria Insurgente and get a free beer pairing with your taco order.
November 14 @ 6 p.m., Meeting of the Guilds at Toronado
This unprecedented event at Toronado will feature a tap takeover by the SD Brewers Guild, LA Brewers Guild, and SF Brewers Guild with 15 representative breweries on tap from each California guild, including Monkey Paw, Pizza Port, The Lost Abbey, Mike Hess Brewing, Stone Brewing Co., Culture Brewing Ballast Point, and Bagby Beer from San Diego, Ladyface Ale Companie and Golden Road from LA and Magnolia Brewing, Fort Point, Cellarmaker and Almanac Beer Company from San Francisco.
November 15 @ 9 a.m., Film Screening and Beer Release at Green Flash Brewing Co.
Get some fresh air and join the brewery for a morning beach clean-up in Mission Bay. At 6 p.m., Green Flash will release two new IPAs, Jibe (Session IPA) & Soul Style (Single IPA) and screen WHAT THE SEA GIVES ME; do-gooders will get VIP reserved seating, a tour of the brewery with tastings and an extra raffle ticket for prizes.
November 16 @ noon, The Beer Garden at The Lodge at Torrey Pines
The official closing event for San Diego Beer Week might just be its most delicious one. Taste your way through the offerings from 24 San Diego breweries and 12 local restaurants, including New English Brewing, Leroy’s Kitchen, Tidal, Table No. 10, Blue Ocean Robata & Sushi Bar, Carnitas Snack Shack and more.
