New South Park Lunch; More Room at Toronado; A Chef Win in Vegas

The Rose debuts lunch, Toronado expands drinking space and San Diego chef gets a Vegas windfall.

SOUTH PARKThe Rose wine bar and bottle shop, which changed ownership this past summer, when they debuted a new weekend brunch service, is now branching out into lunch. Launching this week is a lunch menu that'll be available from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday and Friday. There's a mix-and-match platter of cheese, salami, dips and more, plus salads that range from their signature mixed greens with watermelon radishes and candied almonds to a kale and apple salad with walnuts, raisins and a tahini-citrus dressing [EaterWire]

NORTH PARKToronado's long-awaited expansion is finally complete, and softly opened during San Diego Beer Week. The original space now connects with the adjacent storefront, which has been transformed with a new 20-foot bar, another cooler for bottled beer and more room for tables. [EaterWire]

LAS VEGASChef Ricardo Heredia, formerly of Alchemy Cultural Fare & Drinks, scored big at last week's World Food Championships held in Vegas, winning the title of 2014 World Food Champion and a prize of $100,000. Heredia scored the top spot in the Bacon World Championship in 2013 and 2014, which made him eligible for a best of show competition against other categories. Local company Chef's Roll helped to sponsor the event and sent a number of other San Diego chefs to compete on the Vegas stage. [EaterWire]
