Day four of San Diego Beer Week brings the big news that Green Flash Brewing Co. has acquired locally-beloved Alpine Beer Company to forge a new partnership that will see Alpine's beer distributed across the U.S. over the next few years.
Last fall, Green Flash start brewing three of Alpine's signature beers, Nelson, Hoppy Birthday and Duet, which helped the smaller brewery double its production to 3000 BBLs. Pat McIlhenney, Alpine’s President and Brewmaster, will continue to run their original brewery location, which was launched in 1999, as well as oversee production of his beers at Green Flash's Mira Mesa facility, and possibly their new Poway brewery.
And more joint growth is coming. In a statement, Green Flash co-founder and CEO Mike Hinkley shared that, "I am hopeful that the culmination of the next few years will be that, together, we build a new production facility in Alpine. Maybe we will even brew some Green Flash ale in Alpine."
Green Flash Brewmaster Chuck Silva already has new collaborative brews in the works with McIlhenney and starting in 2015, Green Flash will be bottling certain Alpine beers.
