Scheduled to open this month in the revitalized Balboa Mesa Shopping Center is the first San Diego branch of the wildly popular 85°C Bakery Cafe and Chicken Charlie's, the debut brick-and-mortar for the fried fair food specialists.
Joining them is Ototo Sushi Co., whose 1,800-square-foot space with patio at the east end of the complex should be completed by mid-November.
Owner Hiroshi Toukairin, who also owns Sushiya in Liberty Station, says that though Ototo Sushi will carry some of the same menu items, this is an entirely new concept that'll have more of a craft beer focus and also offer ramen. Ikedo Design's Satoshi Ikedo, who is designing RakiRaki's new spot in Little Italy, will oversee the modern atmosphere.
Toukairin told Eater that he's planning to open another ramen restaurant sometime next year, possibly in North County or Chula Vista.
