Blackout Party; Tapas Tuesday; BBQ Festival

Drink cocktails by candlelight, eat tapas and taste some barbecue.

GOLDEN HILL— Blackout @ Counterpoint launches on Monday, October 13, a new series that'll repeat the second Monday of every month. Starting at 7 p.m., the restaurant will shut off the lights and illuminate the space with candlelight; guest bartender Bryan Dietz will be making three Fernet-based cocktails, including an Italian mule with ginger beer and peach bitters, offered with food pairings from executive chef Rose Peyron [EaterWire]

LA JOLLA— Next Tuesday, October 14, Cusp Dining & Drinks debuts Tapas Tuesday, which will reoccur weekly 4 p.m., replacing the evening's happy hour service. Executive chef Donald Lockhart plans to cook up a rotating menu of small Spanish-inspired plates, including Serrano ham-wrapped watermelon with Manchego cheese and Marcona almonds, each for $6; there will also be live music and wine and sherries available to pair with each tapas. SPRING VALLEY— The annual Spring Valley Tailgate & BBQ Festival is back on Sunday, October 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sponsored in part by Cali Comfort Restaurant & Sports Bar, the community event will feature 30 teams battling each other in a barbecue competition which includes awards for best ribs, chicken and more. Barbecue samples are $2 and funds raised will go to support youth sports programs in the Spring Valley area. The festival will also includes family-friendly activities, live music and other street vendors. [EaterWire]
