The Latest on Bird Rock Coffee's New Shop in Little Italy

Is it coffee time yet?

Not only do the residents of Olea Little Italy, where all 30 apartments were leased before before the building officially opened in mid-August, have ramen and beer at their disposal, there will also be sweet, sweet coffee.

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters was the first commercial tenant to sign up for a space to house their second location, part of the local company's ongoing expansion which includes a new roasting facility and a third coffee bar that should open towards the end of the year.

Though they'd hoped to launch the Little Italy outpost this summer, some construction delays have pushed the opening to Monday, November 3. The 1,400-square-foot coffee house will have outdoor seating and a similar menu to their original Bird Rock shop, which features espresso drinks and a pour-over coffee bar. Food-wise, they plan to carry som baked goods and are asking for local vendors to contact them.

In advance of the opening, owner Chuck Patton told Eater that "Bird Rock Coffee Roasters will be raising the bar for coffee in San Diego once again. The entire space in our new Little Italy location is designed around clean aesthetics, efficient service, and barista ergonomics, with a focus on presenting our Direct Trade and Farm-to-Cup coffees exactly how they should be presented. We will have state-of-the art equipment but we will be maintaing an artisan approach to pour-over coffee and espresso preparation."
