Hip La Jolla mainstay (and Eater 38 resident) Whisknladle has some new blood in the kitchen: Ryan Ellison, formerly of Tower 23’s JRDN, has been appointed chef de cuisine and started last week. Ellison's previous experience also includes gigs at Counterpoint, Brian Malarkey's since-closed Gabardine, Addison, and Nine-Ten.
Parent company Whisknladle Hospitality recently nabbed a chef from downtown market/eatery Bottega Louie, Jason Hotchkiss, to oversee all their kitchens as corporate chef. The restaurant group, which also owns Prepkitchen in Del Mar, currently has another La Jolla restaurant in the works: Catania will feature coastal Italian fare and promises modern decor with nary an Edison bulb or plank of reclaimed wood in sight. It's slated to open in early 2015.
