Owners of The Patio Restaurants Planning New 'Backyard' Concept

Set to open next Spring, a casual outdoor concept in Liberty Station.

Fans of San Diego’s popular restaurant The Patio (there is one location on Goldfinch in Mission Hills and another on Lamont in Pacific Beach) will be pleased to know that the owners are planning to open up a new restaurant concept in the coming Spring of 2015 at Liberty Station. It will occupy the space of the former SOL Market. The new concept will represent a departure from the feel and experience of The Patio restaurants, but still focus on an outdoor theme; this one will be all about the "Backyard."

The vision behind this new idea is to recreate the energy and vibe of a really great backyard party; one where everyone you know is invited--friends, family, neighbors, one where you can’t wait to show up, and one that you can’t stop talking about once its over. The environment will be casual, fun, and interactive.

The menu will play off this "backyard" concept, but don’t assume this relegates the cuisine to strictly BBQ. Custom made wood fired grills, smokers and pizza ovens will inspire a menu centered around this wood fired style of cooking. There will also be healthy salads, side dishes and vegetarian dishes to appeal to all tastes. This menu will be available daily for lunch and dinner, with some additional brunch options on weekends. The real excitement will be on Sundays for the weekly pig roast they plan on hosting to utilize the amazing outdoor space on the property. In fact, most of the cooking for the new concept will be done outside, right in front of diners, so you will be able to enjoy a heightened sense of visual and sensory stimulation as is customary of most backyard gatherings. Beverage wise, they will be serving craft beer, wine and cocktails. Food and drink can be ordered at the indoor counter or at one of the two outdoor bars.

With a setting like the historic Liberty Station Navy fire house, it makes sense that the design team wants the décor to compliment the urban beauty of its surroundings by seamlessly transitioning to an outdoor patio area that "evokes the comfort and connectivity of a well-appointed backyard party." Art, a water feature, and a fireplace will also be fixtures in the outdoor area. Capacity is anticipated to accommodate 300-plus patrons.

Stay tuned for more news about this upcoming "backyard" resto concept as we anticipate its opening in Spring of 2015.
