It has come to the attention of Eater San Diego that Chicken Charlie’s, the popular deep fried fair food vendor, on which we previously reported as going brick and mortar in mid-October will actually be opening its doors to the public on Friday, October 24. Charlie himself will be there to greet his new customers.
Under the amended name Chicken Charlie’s FryBQ, the eatery will find its new home in the Regency Center’s upgraded Balboa Mesa Complex.
Charlie Boghosian, the man behind the deep fryer, will use his 30 years of experience in fair cuisine to guide the menu of his new storefront; signature dishes like the grilled teriyaki chicken bowls and fan favorites like the deep fried Oreos and frog legs will be joining some of his newer creations, like the formidable double decker Krispy Kreme cheeseburger. The grilled milky way mozzarella sandwich is another new item to look forward to.
Not that you’ll have much room for anything else after that, but Chicken Charlie’s will also be offering local tap beers (around 10 of them), including Ballast Point Sculpin and Coronado Brewing IPA, wine, and champagne cocktails at the new 2,500-square-foot location.
The hours will be Sunday to Thursday, 10:30am to 11pm, and Friday and Saturdays, 10:30am to midnight.
Chicken Charlie has said that he is excited and optimistic about this new restaurant on which he has worked so hard, and has plans for more restaurants in the future.
