Taco Battle; Oktoberfest Pub Crawl; Bakery Classes

See chefs duke it out over tacos, go on a German beer crawl and learn how to bake a righteous pie.

EAST VILLAGE— Taco Fights at The Blind Burro are back, with a new set of chef competitors. Kicking off in round one, scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, is a bout between Zarco's Flor Franco and the East Village's own Jason Gethin from Table No. 10. Head in to taste each chef's taco; a plate of both tacos is $6 or $10 with an added beer pairing. Future taco battles will feature Javier Plascencia (Romesco), Luisteen Gonzalez (Puesto) and Ryan Studebaker (MIHO Gastrotruck), with a grand championship to be held on Tuesday, October 28. AROUND TOWN— Hamilton's Tavern is ringing in its eighth anniversary this month with a series of awesome events that includes an Oktoberfest pub crawl scheduled for Saturday, October 11. From 1 to 4 p.m., the bar will run a free shuttle from South Park to sisters spots Small Bar and Monkey Paw, where there will be dozens of German and German-inspired beers on tap and in bottles. EAST VILLAGE— Bake Sale Bakery is launching a series of hands-on classes designed to nurture your inner baker. Scheduled for Wednesday, October 15 from 6 to 8:30 is a pumpkin-themed holiday baking class that'll run through cheesecake, quicks breads and more, while pies, from double crust versions to hand hand minis, are on the docket for November 4.
