Rakiraki Ramen & Tsukemen is getting ready to stretch its noodle domain all over San Diego and beyond. Eater's hearing that the ramen shop, which opened on Convoy Street in late 2012, is scouting for new outposts throughout the city, including the Gaslamp, East Village, Hillcrest, Del Mar and Mira Mesa, with the help of Location Matters' Paul Ahern.
Owner Junya Watanabe tell us he's planning on bringing RakiRaki to the Bay Area, having already signed a lease in Palo Alto next to the University Avenue Apple store; he's looking in the vicinity of Huntington Beach, too.
The shop started out with a pared-down menu of chicken-based ramen whose recipe was given to Watanabe by a Japanese ramen master, but the food options have since expanded to include other ramen varieties, appetizers, sushi rolls and even a version of the infamous ramen burger.
He also owns the adjacent Harajuku-theme crepe cafe, Angels & Hearts, and says that if the future locations can accommodate both, he'll open the creperie in tandem with RakiRaki within each new space.
