DOWNTOWN— Tender Greens' charcuterie program is killing it right now; regional executive chef Pete Balistreri just won a major food award for his salumi line and the restaurant sent over a photo of the gleaming new meat curing chamber installed at their downtown location. Chef Marcus Twilegar just loaded the 10 x 4 foot chamber with house made coppa, teas, pancetta and lardo, which will be showcased on their charcuterie board when ready. [EaterWire]
NORTH PARK— Tonight marks the last iteration of North Park's 30th on 30th event (Swoon Dessert Bar's offering mini sundaes for $3 and Urban Solace will have bacon and cheddar doughnuts). Starting next month, it'll be be called Third Thursdays in North Park; the inaugural kick-off is scheduled for February 20, with specials offered by neighborhood restaurants and bars. [Facebook]
EAST VILLAGE— Like tacos? The Blind Burro is the place to be every Tuesday in February. Launching February 4 is Taco Fights, a chef showdown that pits two chefs in a taco battle; sample both for $6, $10 with an additional beer pairing, and vote for your favorite. The winner of each weekly competition will face-off on February 25 for a prize and taco glory. The first throwdown is between Chad White (Plancha Baja Med) vs Hanis Cavin (Carnitas Snack Shack); future competitors include Rich Sweeney (R Gang Eatery), Miguel Angel Guerrero (La Querencia Baja Med) and The Blind Burro's own Sara Polczynski and Todd Nash.
