Now that Terry Gavre (Cafe 222, Bankers Hill) has opened ACME Southern Kitchen, which started lunch service on Monday and launches Sunday brunch in a few weeks, she's getting ready to tackle another project in the East Village.
Gavre has been using a space on F Street, which used to be La Mirage Cafe & Grill, as a test kitchen for ACME. Now, she'll spruce the place up and open a new bakery called Bake Sale.
The shop will continue to bake up bread for ACME (brioche buns, biscuits, sandwich bread, cornbread), but when it opens to the public in mid-to-late February, they'll also sell coffee and baked breakfast goods, from scones to morning buns and yeasted english muffins, plus desserts, including pies, cakes, lemon bars and brownies.
Gavre also plans to offer lunch - soups, salads and sandwiches for take out.
