Switcheroo in PB; Brewery Birthday; New Filipino

PACIFIC BEACH Sdnews.com has background on the shutter of Nick's on the Beach in PB, which is currently being remodeled into another outpost of The Local and due to reopen in June. The bi-level space will feature Asian-inspired food, live music and an expanded patio space. Owner Mina Desiderio says the new place will look like a "beach house in stilts"; Eater's hearing that Michael Soriano of Onairos Design is in charge of the transformation. [sdnews]

PACIFIC BEACH Karl Strauss Brewing Company is celebrating a quarter century in beer with a grand version of their annual "Changing of the Barrels" event. On Saturday, February 8 from 6 to 9 p.m., their main tasting room will be awash in beer, with 20 taps to drink through, plus brewery tours, food, live music. The $40 ticket includes a bottle of their 25th Anniversary Barrel-Aged Doppelbock and a portion of proceeds goes towards the nonprofit Karl Strauss Brewers Education Fund. [EaterWire]
