The "Starbucks of Korea" Plans to Caffeinate San Diego

A wink and a nod to the tipster who noticed a new coffee shop in construction, in the base of the Strata building on Market Street.

Tom N Toms Coffee, a chain with over 300 stores worldwide that's been called the "Starbucks of Korea", is expanding into San Diego. Another downtown outpost is planned for the ground floor of Cortez Hill's Vantage Pointe Apartments (1281 9th Ave.) and Eater's hearing that Tom N Toms locations are slated for a slew of other East Village condo buildings.

The coffee shop is known for their food menu, which includes sweet and savory pretzels and Asian "brick toast". Coffee drinks range from the standard to their signature TomNccino iced blended drinks. Other beverages include tea, seasonal smoothies and fresh juice.

Tom N Toms Coffee is known for their late night hours (some are open 24/7), free wi-fi and private booth layout; a rep for the chain says that the first two San Diego locations should be open at the end of the month.
