San Diegans Score Top Spots in Good Food Awards

The gala awards ceremony for the fourth annual Good Food Awards was just held in San Francisco, presided over by food luminaries including Alice Waters, Nell Newman and Ruth Reichl.

As in years past, San Diego was showcased on the awards platform; P. Balistreri Salumi, the eponymous artisan salumi line founded by Tender Greens' regional executive chef Pete Balistreri was honored for its Salami Point Loma "Rosemary and Garlic" and Carlsbad-based Happy Pantry won for their awesomely named Power Krautage, sauerkraut made with cabbage, kale and dandelion greens.

San Diegans were also represented on the panel of blind judges who culled down the 1,450 craft food entries from all 50 states in ten different categories; local chefs Andrew Spurgin and Christian Graves evaluated cheese and charcuterie, respectively, and The Lost Abbey's Gwen Conley judged beer.
