North County Gets Classic Rock-Themed Pizza & Salads

Acting on a tip from North County Food, Eater just toured the new Zig Zag Pizza, another new addition to the Cohn Restaurant Group roster.

Aiming to open next month, Zig Zag is taking over a 60-seat space around the corner from the group's 333 Pacific, a steak and seafood house at the base of the Wyndham Oceanside Pier Resort; 333's chef, Brian Hyre, will look after this kitchen too.

The concept, which the CRG intends to replicate if it's well-received, is based around chopped salads (inspired by the East Coast chain, Chop't) and quick-service pizza (a la Project Pie).

Ordering's done cafeteria-style; the thin crust pizzas, which cook via a conveyor belt convection oven, and the chopped salads are both customizable with different toppings and proteins. A classic rock-theme extends from the eatery's playlist to its menu of curated dishes; the ZZ Top pizza includes pepperoni, sausage, meatballs and the Hotel California salad gets topped with hemp seed husks and acai yogurt vinaigrette.

Coolers will be stocked with bottles of local beer and wine, which can be also be purchased to-go.
