Before you jet off on your next vacation, here's a follow-up to our Where to Eat at the San Diego International Airport (SAN) Dining Guide; opening this Friday is Phil's BBQ in Terminal 2's North Concourse. The menu ranges from a pulled pork breakfast burrito to a baby back rib dinner and their famous El Toro sandwich of BBQ sauce-smothered tri-tip; a full bar offers cocktails, wine and six beer taps. Nearby, an outpost of the Pannikin Coffee & Tea will launch next Tuesday.
On August 13, the airport will also debut its expansion of Terminal 2 West, which includes Urban Crave, a vendor of tacos, sandwiches and gourmet hot dogs, and houses Sunset Cove, a concessions area featuring Red Mango frozen yogurt and smoothies, Tommy V's pizza and pasta, Stack Shack sliders and burgers and a new location for Saffron Restaurant, which is now using gluten-free soy sauce to flavor its healthful Thai dishes. New to its airport menu, two breakfast crepes made from rice flour and stuffed with scrambled eggs and salsa or berries and maple syrup.
Other notable airport openings: Stone Brewing Co. has targeted the August 27 as their launch. The location will feature 12 beer taps and favorite dishes from their two bistros, including Stone-style soft pretzels with hemp seeds, housemade hummus, Levitation BBQ duck tacos and an artisanal sausage platter. Tender Greens' quick-service Garden concept is due to arrive in the commuter terminal this month, while Terminal 1's Craft Brews on 30th Street is now open at gates 1 and 2.
