Fogo de Chao's Temple of Grilled Meat Is Now Open

Meat lovers are rejoicing in the impending opening of Fogo de Chao, the Southern Brazilian steakhouse with 19 other locations just in the U.S.

The well-regarded churrascaria officially debuts tonight and will begin lunch service on September 2. Dinner ($46.50) and lunch ($29.50) centers around carefully grilled hunks of meat, which Fogo de Chao's chefs and servers, called gauchos, deliver to you in steady supply until you cry uncle.

The feast includes over 16 cuts of meat, from garlicky sirloin steak and pork ribs to leg of lamb and bacon-wrapped chicken breasts, plus starchy sides and their grand salad bar. New to the menu are appetizers, served only in the bar and outdoor patio, and a selection of seafood dishes.

Fogo de Chao spent five years eyeing San Diego for expansion, but it wasn't until Borders bookstore vacated its 12,000-square-foot space that the company had ample room for its grand design, which seats 350 in their main dining room and five private rooms.

To celebrate their local launch, Fogo de Chao will participate in San Diego Restaurant Week (September 15-20) and offer deals on dinner ($40) and lunch ($20).
