Council President Todd Gloria made an appearance at Brooklyn Girl Eatery yesterday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate a new addition to the Mission Hills restaurant, the first sidewalk cafe to open since the City Council passed new regulations earlier this year that make it easier, and cheaper, to install outdoor patios.
Brooklyn Girl turned one in May, and owner Michael McGeath wanted outdoor seating from the restaurant's get-go. McGeath told KFMB that the city originally wanted him to pay $8,000 to add six outside tables; with the new permitting rules, McGeath got his patio for $800.
