Jay Porter, former owner of The Linkery, has been reflecting on his personal blog about the restaurant's decision to institute an automatic 18% service fee; his latest post is entitled "Why Tipping Should (And May) Be Made Illegal." Porter recently authored a piece on Quartz where he writes that after the change, "our service improved, our revenue went up, and both our business and our employees made more money."
