If you haven't been down to Mexico lately to eat or drink, you really should, but this weekend some of the best chefs, wineries and breweries of Tijuana, Ensenada and the Valle de Guadalupe are kindly coming straight to you.
Whole Foods Market Hillcrest is holding a three-day Taste Baja! extravaganza curated by Baja Wine + Food; the fun kicks off Friday at 3 p.m. and continues until Sunday at 5 p.m.
Throughout the weekend, sample wines from Valle de Guadalupe, including Casa de Piedra and Monte Xanic, and meet their winemakers, for $5 at Whole Foods' 7th Avenue Pub. On the market's patio, some of the region's best chefs (Javier Plascencia, Drew Deckman, Miguel Angel Guerrero, Benito Molina) will participate in cook-off's and share tastes of their cuisine.
The new wave of Mexican craft breweries is in on the action too, including Insurgente and Agua Mala; plus, you'll have the chance to purchase street food from the likes of Mariscos Ruben and La Guerrerense, which Anthony Bourdain deemed the "The Best Food Cart in the World". Whole Foods' own kitchen will serving complimentary fish tacos, shrimp ceviche and other bites inspired by Baja.
