Splashy New Sushi Restaurant Planned for Carlsbad

A grand new sushi concept is on its way to downtown Carlsbad. The owners of Love Boat Sushi, which has four area locations, have purchased a site near Carlsbad Village and plan to open a 3,000-square-foot sushi restaurant and lounge in a space that once housed Chin's Szechwan Cuisine.

Blue Ocean Robata & Sushi Bar is looking to open this fall; on board are Jaime Partners and local designers Bells & Whistles.

The location's transformation will be dramatic, crafted from wood, concrete and steel with accents of color and subtle texturing from angled origami tiles lining the ceiling and select walls; floor-to-ceiling windows will give an aquarium effect.

With a capacity of 80 to 100 people, Blue Ocean will serve lunch and dinner and offer cocktails; in addition to a large sushi bar, there will also be a robata-style cooking area, for grilling up food on skewers. Phase two of the project will bring outdoor patio seating.
