A family network of East Coasters who hail from Boston, New Jersey, Maine are debuting Lobster West today, their celebration New England's seafood favorites, namely its famed lobster roll.
The 900-square-foot eatery, located in Encinitas' The Lumberyard, seats 34 inside and out and is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. They offer two varieties of lobster roll; the Maine version is served chilled while warm lobster fills the Connecticut-inspired sandwich. Both come with a brush of lemon butter, a dusting of spice blend and their homemade coleslaw. An authentic, toasted-on-the-outside bun is employed, and they even offer a gluten-free bread option.
Rolls are also available stuffed with shrimp or a mix of blue and Dungeness crab, and the menu's rounded out by three seafood-based soups, a creamy lobster bisque, New England clam chowder (made with hand-shucked clams) and a Maryland crab soup. Ex-pat Mainers might be giddy to find out that Lobster West also serves the state's signature treat, whoopie pies.
